Leprechaun Launch 2006

MSOE Leprechaun Launch Sponsored by Cousins Subs
Kappa Eta Kappa Awarded Champion

The Winning Launcher Design

The launcher consisted of a PVC barrel connected to an empty keg which is used as a the pressure vessel.  The pressure is built using the compressor taken off of an old powered air compressor, the compressor is powered by the team members using an old bicycle.  Half the team uses the bicycle to build pressure in the vessel while the other team loads the barrel.  The barrel can be moved in three dimensions to aim the launcher.

Booth - KHK Tie with Triangle

The booth consisted of a chicken wire tunnel with frame decorated in purple and gold Thetas.  The backstop was two flats covered with foam insulation to prevent the pool balls from breaking through the flats.  Records, ones that we determined had no value, were lined up along the backstop and the game player hurled one pool ball at a time for three tries.  If the player broke two records out of three throws or more they got to pick a record out of the group selected to be use as prizes, if the player broke less than two records they got a piece of candy.

Leprechaun Launch - KHK Winner by a long Shot

This event did not count for Overall points but KHK won with both distance and accuracy, being the team to launch a leprechaun closest to the target.  Our launcher was updated with a paint job and monogrammed as the KHK Big Boy for this years festivities. This design has been very successful.
